Emergency Health Center

The main objective of the design is to meticulously meet the specified requirements and present a proposal aligned with the parameters outlined in the Competition Brief. Simultaneously, the design aims to symbolize a contemporary addition with a unique architectural narrative, contributing to the visual identity of both the micro and macro environments. In this context, high functionality, architectural originality, and a response sensitive to the spatial needs and operational efficiency of the institution are prioritized criteria. In line with the established architectural heritage of the Montenegro Clinic Center, the project recognizes the need to preserve the authenticity of the existing structure while skillfully expanding it to accommodate the new Emergency Center.

The design proposal aims to create an architectural identity for the Emergency Center within the Montenegro Clinic Center. The fundamental principle of the design is to use the existing structures and add what is missing, rather than demolishing and rebuilding, thereby utilizing fewer materials, energy, and money and ensuring the efficient use of the existing space. These ecological concerns are expressed worldwide, but unfortunately, they are often not implemented. Widespread demolition is a relatively new phenomenon; otherwise, historic city centers and old buildings would no longer exist.

The demolition of modern architecture is a situation that requires us to pause and reflect, as there is no objective reason for it. Modern buildings are not constructed worse than older ones, and the addition and layering of architectural styles contribute to our history by reflecting the evolution of society in each era. There is no valid reason for the demolition of all these modern buildings, as they have not reached the end of their lifespans. The replacements of demolished buildings are not necessarily better, and among what is lost in demolition are the lives and environments of people, as well as structures, materials, and spaces that could still be utilized. This represents a significant financial loss and a substantial carbon footprint. Demolition is entirely inconsistent with the ecological and sustainability imperatives of our time. With demolition, the memory of the city and the traces that help us understand our history are also erased. Exemplary actions do not begin after demolition.

This design emphasizes sustainability and environmental sensitivity, highlighting the preservation and repurposing of modern structures. By integrating the existing building, it provides a solution that addresses the needs of the new generation while maintaining the harmony of both historical and contemporary elements. Thus, with principles of transformation and reuse instead of demolition, the architectural practice presents a sustainable and environmentally friendly vision for the future.
