Antalya Muratpasa Cultural Center
Context
Antalya has a Mediterranean climate, which significantly affects people’s daily routines and ergonomics. Due to these climatic conditions, socialization typically occurs after sunset. Therefore, it is essential to preserve the trees in the competition area and design the building to provide shade.
The Project site is situated in the middle of a medium-density housing zone. Consequently, the design aims to attract users not only for the building’s primary functions but also for socializing. Thus, the organization of the building and the landscape is preferred to be permeable and flexible.
Design
The Multi-purpose Performing Arts Hall is the dominant unit in the building due to its acoustical and other specific needs. The hall is equipped with an orchestra pit, stages, and technical rooms, optimizing it for a variety of activities. The foyer, workshops, and rehearsal rooms open onto the “Art Street,” which connects users from the park to all functions within the building. Additionally, a restaurant, an observation platform, public areas, and courtyards are designed for use day and night, and in both summer and winter.
Thanks to the terrace and walking platforms, the building can be utilized not only at ground level but also at different elevations. This sustainable design integrates the foyer along the park, the “Art Street,” and the open spaces, connecting users with the environment.
